The Clear Creek Beginner trip is the ideal introduction to whitewater rafting — a fun, splashy adventure through the beautiful Idaho Springs canyon that's perfect for first-timers, families with young kids, and anyone who wants to experience the thrill of the river without the extreme.

You'll float through scenic Class II and III rapids with our certified expert guides leading the way. Expect laughter, splashing, and a whole lot of smiles. No prior experience needed — we'll walk you through everything before you ever touch the water.

Clear Creek runs just 35 miles west of Denver, making this one of the most accessible rafting experiences in Colorado. Easy to get to, easy to fall in love with.

When you arrive at our Idaho Springs outpost, our guides will fit you with all your gear and walk you through a complete safety briefing. You'll learn paddle commands, how to hold your paddle, and what to do if you happen to fall in — it's rare on this run, but we always make sure you're prepared.

The trip takes 2.5–3 hours total through stunning canyon scenery. Afterward, you're welcome to hang out at the outpost and relive the highlights. Photos are available for purchase.

The beginner section features fun, forgiving Class II–III rapids that give you plenty of excitement without the intensity of the upper canyon runs.

Beginner Rafting FAQ

Do I need any rafting experience?

Nope — the Beginner trip is built for first-timers and families. Your guide walks you through paddle commands and everything you need to know before you ever touch the water.

How old do kids need to be?

The minimum age is 5 for the Beginner run, which makes it one of the most family-friendly rafting trips in Colorado.

Is it scary?

Not at all. The Beginner section is splashy and fun with forgiving Class II–III rapids — exciting without being intense. A great fit for nervous first-timers and kids.

What if I fall out of the raft?

It's rare on this stretch, but your guide covers exactly what to do beforehand, and everyone wears a helmet and life jacket. We do everything we can to maximize safety.

What should I wear and bring?

Wear a swimsuit and secure footwear (no flip-flops or Crocs). We provide wetsuits, splash jackets, helmets, and PFDs. Bring a towel and dry clothes for after.

How far is it from Denver?

About 35 miles — roughly a 45-minute drive west on I-70 to our Idaho Springs outpost.
